The "Kruidenier" is a publisher which was created when the poetry of two people got so extensive, they thought it was a good idea to collect and publish it. It all started December 1998. Two bored students made their lives a little more interesting by writing poems about nothing. Well, as a matter of fact, they were about nonsense. Going by the pseudonym of "de ledervrienden" (i.e. the Leather Friends) they used the word Leather not in the meaning of leather but by there own completely different definition: Nice.
This way they wrote some nice poems until the turningpoint of "De man in het bos" ("The man in the forest"). This poem was the inspiration for a whole series of similar poems. They all have a title about half a page long, but still one sentence, followed by some lines of poetry, and of course signed "de ledervrienden".
You must be wondering by now, why all this trouble? Well, as was mentioned earlier the Leather Friends were students, and traditionally students don't have very much to spend. So when they gave a friend one of these poems as a birthday gift, and he liked it, they found a nice way of making cheap gifts ;-)
Half a year later when the amount of birthdays began to decline, and they had some spare time, they decided to collect the separate gift-poems (i.e. letters) and release it as an album. It was a great hit, the small amount in which it was released, was sold out soon (and I mean small, like 40 pieces). The first production of the "Kruidenier" was a fact.
